Site Theme
The most obvious change is the site theme. I changed the theme from Albizia by itx (old theme, above, left) to Twenty Eleven by the WordPress team (new theme, above, right). We think the new theme is a lot cleaner and easier on the eyes. The new theme offers a search bar to help you quickly locate anything on the site. Currently this theme rotates the header image randomly between 8 different images (I will try to add more random images soon).

Recipe Posts
Every page in the main blog (Home menu) will require less scrolling when Mom finishes updating all of her recipes posts. Every post in the main blog will now just show an image and a quick summary followed by a “Continue reading” link where you can drill down for more information.
Another thing that we felt would be helpful would be an easy way navigate all of the recipes… Mom is now categorizing all of the recipes and I added a Recipes landing page to the main menu. The categories section on the right side of the main page is now functional and over time it will be populated with ALL of the recipes.
Additionally, as seen in the images above, I am also testing a new recipe posting method. The new style (above, right) offers a print button and is formatted to show up in Google searches.

Comment System
The WordPress comment system has always had horrible problems with allowing automated bot (spam) comments to get posted to blogs while unregistered users (actual human beings) weren’t even allowed to post.
I manually deleted 2,469 comments, most of which were just spam. If you notice one of your comments is missing please email me soon so I can find it and restore it.
I have added a simple captcha system to the site that seems to have blocked all of the comment bots. Registered and logged in users will never see this whenever they add site comments.
Since this captcha system seems to be working I have also allowed everyone to add comments, even if they aren’t logged in. So… for the first time ever, normal visitors can now post comments!
All users will now see this when logging in. New users will see this during site registration. Unregistered users or users that haven’t signed in will see this each time they post a comment.
Site registrations are still open!
I hope this information helps.
Thanks,
Darren
